CIMS DE PORRERA
‘Cims’ is Catalan for ‘summits’, a reflection of the estate’s vines that are situated on the steep, rocky slopes high above Porrera village in Tarragona, the southern-most province of Spain’s Catalonia. Cims de Porrera is a village co-operative, making only two premium wines that reflect the best of Priorat.
Sitting at 400-600m above sea level, this difficult terrain, with its unique black slate soil, requires meticulous hand harvesting of the ancient, low-yielding vines that can be more than a hundred years old. Priorat is only one of two wine regions in Spain (the other being Rioja) to qualify as Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa, or DOQ in Catalan), the highest level of Spanish classification.
