CHATEAU PICHON LONGUEVILLE COMTESSE DE LALANDE

Commonly referred to as Pichon Lalande, this famous Second Growth wine is quintessential Pauillac for many consumers, voluptuously textured, with complex layers of fruit and a classic earthy perfume.

Once part of the larger Pichon estate, it was split apart in 1850 when the then owner, 90-year-old Baron Joseph de Pichon-Longueville died and bequeathed the property equally between his five children, the women receiving Pichon Lalande and the men what would become Pichon-Longueville Baron. Pichon Lalande stayed in family hands for over 250 years until it was sold to Champagne giants Louis Roederer in 2007.

A hugely expensive renovation then took place, both in the winery and in the vineyard. 67 hectares are planted in 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The estate is managed sustainably, with half of the vineyard farmed organically. They are also experimenting with bioydnamics.
