CHATEAU CLOS HAUT-PEYRAGUEY

Classified as a Premier Cru Classé in 1855, Sauternes' Château Peyraguey was divided in 1879, with the smaller parcel becoming Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey and retaining the vital classification. It has only been in the last few years that the quality of this property has regained its true potential for greatness.

The 2011 vintage was a turning point, producing an excellent wine made predominantly from Semillon, with an average vine age of 35 years and the wine half aged in new oak. Currently under the wing of the golden-fingered Bernard Magrez (Château La Tour Carnet, Fombrauge and Pape Clément), Clos Haut-Peyraguey is proving to be capable of producing excellent Sauternes for medium-term cellaring, benefiting from around 6-12 years in the cellar.
