TAKAPUNA WINECLUB | GREYWACKE WITH THE JUDDS
If you have ever hiked a mountain range in New Zealand, or taken a stroll along a rocky path beside a river then chances are that you have tread on greywacke. More than just a type of drab, grey sandstone though it also provides some of the unique terroir found in the nation's vineyards. More than that as well it is also the name of the wine produced by the Judds from stony Marlborough soils. As founding winemaker at Cloudy Bay for 25 years Kevin Judd played an instrumental role in helping establish Kiwi wine on the world stage. Even from the early days though he harboured a dream that would one day bear delicious fruit. In 1993 Kevin registered the name of Greywacke wines, with this idea germinating for a further 16 years. With his wife Kimberley at his side Kevin established the brand fully in 2009, and some of the nation's finest examples of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and aromatics have been flowing under the label ever since. For this event we will be thrilled to have Kevin and Kimberley here to tell us their story and taste through their range of wines.
