CHÂTEAU LÉOVILLE-LAS-CASES MASTERCLASS AKL - WITH FLORENT GENTY
Château Léoville-Las-Cases is one of the greatest wine estates in the world. Sited in the northern Medoc appellation of Saint-Julien, they produce incredibly concentrated and elegant wines from their old plots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. They were classified as a second growth estate in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux. Today they are regarded as a ‘super second’, often rivalling the First Growths themselves.
We’re very pleased to welcome their representative Florent Genty to New Zealand for the first time. He will be presenting some great older vintages from Léoville-Las-Cases, as well as wines from two other excellent Bordeaux properties they own, Château Potensac in the Médoc and Château Nenin in Pomerol.
We will start with the Merlot dominant Château Nenin, the epitome of a great Pomerol 'vin de garde'. This is a long-time favourite of the British royal family and we will be tasting two of their greatest vintages, the 2016 and the 2009. The Delon family also owns Château Potensac, unique in the Medoc for it’s limestone rich soil. Traditionally very structured this is a wine for classical Bordeaux lovers. We will be tasting the great 2016 and the rich 2003.
Then we will be tasting four vintages of the Grand Vin de Léoville-Las-Cases, which sell for an average of $700 a bottle. We will be tasting back over 30 years, from the superlative 2009, through 2004, then 1998, and finishing with the famous and rare 1989. Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to taste through history, with one of the world’s finest wines.
