Zephyr’s name comes from the characteristics of the prevailing winds which is part of the Marlborough region’s unique ripening reason. Owen and Wendy Glover, the pair behind Zephyr Wines, converted their farm in Dillons Point into a vineyard in 1985. They initially planted Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling, and this has been mainly unchanged. In the early 1990s, Gewurztraminer left a lasting impression on the Glovers. As a result, Zephyr is an aromatic specialist today.
